POS Technology to Mobile Businesses

point of sale systems, restaurant point of sale, restaurant point of sale systems

The word from several federal agencies is that the economy is on the mend but several citizens around the United States are still under the weight of difficult economic circumstances and that unemployment numbers are still very high and a number of people are actually living underneath the poverty level.  Many people receive food stamps and at least forty five million people around the country are enrolled in food stamp programs.  This is an increase from only twenty five million just a few years ago.  This means that the food stamp program helps to feed over twelve percent of the population in the United States.  This equates to over sixty billion dollars of food assistance last year.

An aspect of saving money while shopping that has not made it into the food stamp program is the idea that food stamps could be used to buy food and produce from local farmers.  So far, because of a lack of restaurant point of sale systems at things like farmers markets and local growers unions, food stamps have not been used for purchases at local farms when it would clearly make sense to do so.  There are a number of local farms that could benefit greatly from the food stamp program since local citizens would flock to nearby farms to buy food because it was fresh and healthy.

A recent study suggests that supporting local food outlets such as farms is a significantly positive way to encourage growth in small local economies and that encouraging purchases from places like small independent local farms would be a boon to small economies in very depressed areas of the United States.
